PRESERVING THE PAST – ONE SCAN AT A TIME
Galvescan, a community preservation project led by Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF), offers free scanning services for your historic photographs, documents, and other Galveston-focused memorabilia.
Participants can mail or bring their historical items to our office, where we will then professionally scan them using high-resolution equipment. After scanning, the original items are returned to the owner, along with a complimentary digital copy of the scans. These digital records will be carefully preserved in GHF’s archives, contributing to the collective history of Galveston for future generations. In addition to physical items, we also are now offering oral history documentation in our #GalvestonHistory studios.
CURRENT NEED:
We currently need images of the Port of Galveston, specifically images from 1950 to the present day and specifically of Elevator B’s implosion in 2003.
Whether it’s family photographs, letters, postcards, or other cherished memorabilia, Galvescan offers a simple and meaningful way to ensure your personal history becomes part of the island’s enduring legacy. Join us in celebrating and preserving Galveston’s past — one scan at a time.

ABOUT GALVESTON HISTORICAL FOUNDATION
Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF) was formed as the Galveston Historical Society in 1871 and merged with a new organization formed in 1954 as a non-profit entity devoted to historic preservation and history in Galveston County. Over the last sixty years, GHF has expanded its mission to encompass community redevelopment, historic preservation advocacy, maritime preservation, coastal resiliency and stewardship of historic properties. GHF embraces a broader vision of history and architecture that encompasses advancements in environmental and natural sciences and their intersection with historic buildings and coastal life and conceives of history as an engaging story of individual lives and experiences on Galveston Island from the 19th century to the present day.
