ELISSA will be closed to the public beginning September 9. She will return from her drydocking and reopen to the public in November. During this time, the museum is open to the public at a discounted rate. Museum admission will be included free with the Galveston Harbor Tour ticket during this time.
Film: Passage to Galveston: The Story of Elissa, is presented continuously in the museum gallery. This 17-minute, award-winning documentary beautifully tells the story of Elissa's discovery, purchase and restoration. Entrance to the film is included in the Elissa admission price.
1937 Shrimp Boat Santa Maria: Gold from the Gulf Exhibit
The Gold from the Gulf exhibit shows the history, industry and ecology of Gulf Coast shrimping. The exhibit includes items from the 1937 Santa Maria shrimp boat owned by GHF’s Texas Seaport Museum, as well as a display of early photography of the Galveston shrimping fleet. Texas Seaport Museum is open 7 days a week from 10am-5pm.
Treasures of NOAA’s Ark
Arriving in September, the travelling exhibit, Treasures of NOAA's Ark, will showcase artifacts representing science, service and stewardship by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and its ancestor agencies from 19th century maps and charts to early scientific instruments that recall the agency’s proud heritage and legacy of service to the nation.
