Texas Seaport Museum To Offer Marine Biology Tour Saturday, November 24

Guests to Galveston Historical Foundation’s Texas Seaport Museum, 2200 Harborside Drive, will have the opportunity to learn more about the marine life living in Galveston Bay on Saturday, November 24 with a special Marine Biology Tour. The tour, led by marine biologist Dr. Sid Steffins, begins at 4 p.m., lasts one and a half hours and is suitable for ages 6 and up. Reservations are $15 per person for adults and $12 per person for youth and can be made by calling 409-763-1877. The tour also visits birding sites to see indigenous shore bird species and birds of passage in all their variety.

“The Marine Biology Tour will allow participants a hands-on environment to study plankton through microscopic lens and learn more about the fish and sea creatures in our bay.” says Texas Seaport Museum’s Assistant Director, John Schaumburg. “Our marine biologist will be on board to answer questions and assist in these studies.”

Located in the historic port of Galveston, the Texas Seaport Museum is home to the 1877 ELISSA and also tells the story of a rich legacy of seaborne commerce and immigration. Look for ancestors with a one-of-a-kind computer database containing the names of more than 133,000 immigrants who entered the United States through Galveston, "The Ellis Island of the West".
